The Council consists of six standing committees (listed below) and the Administrative Board is responsible for motivating the council and ensuring that projects are successfully and efficiently executed. An appointed director manages each committee.

 Each of the six committees has specific goals that they need to achieve every year, as laid out in the DYC Annual Calendar. Each committee is presented with and required to fulfil the requirements of their Committee File and must work in accordance with the goals and aims as outlined in the Committee Portfolio. Below is a description each committee on the DYC, followed by a brief synopsis of their planned activities for the year. Each committee is required to complete a minimum of one project per school term, but always exceeds this quota.

  • Arts and Culture

    Uplift and empower the Youth through cultural activities.
    Actively drive extra-curricular and cultural programmes in primary and secondary schools.
    Promote awareness of South Africa’s diverse arts and cultures and support access to the arts.
    Drive internal and external fund raising initiatives in line with the afore-mentioned objectives.

  • Advocacy

    The voice of DYC and address current issues prevalent amongst the Youth, i.e.: drug abuse, teen pregnancy, education, self-esteem, peer pressure, racial discrimination.
    Drive awareness and prevention of current issues by engaging and interacting with primary and secondary school learners

  • Environmental and Infrastructure

    Educate and create awareness around issues pertaining to the environment.
    Engage in activities which contribute to a cleaner and greener environment.
    Improve and uplift schools, homes, buildings and facilities accessed by those less privileged.

  • Feeding Schemes and Disabilities

    Provide nourishment to those less fortunate through the collection and distribution of food items.
    Implement sustainable programmes and feeding schemes in less privileged and no fee schools.
    Serve and empower those challenged with mental and physical disabilities.
    Educate and create awareness around disabilities.

  • HIV and Humanities

    Educate and create awareness around HIV and related diseases.
    Uplift and improve the lives of those impacted by HIV and AIDS.
    Educate and create awareness around basic human rights.
    Empower those who are less privileged and restore basic human rights.

  • Sports & Recreation

    Maximise access and participation in sport at school level.
    Provide appropriate resources to enable such levels of access and participation.
    Serve and empower those challenged with mental and physical disabilities.
    Use sport as a medium to drive unity, team spirit and cultural integration.
    Improve the quality of life through sport by building self-confidence & improving mental and physical well-being.
